Going off topic. 06/12/2010
Cake decorating can get messy. I usually work in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt which will be coated in powdered sugar when I'm done. I haven't wore an apron since I was in junior high cooking class, but thought I'd give them a shot again. I also decided to make my apron. ![]() I found some clearance fabric at Joann's and made this. Meh. I don't really like it that much. It serves it's purpose, but I think I'm going to try making another. The fabric was cute though. See, little wedding cakes. Anyhow, Joann's is one of those places that I tend to get a little crazy and buy a bunch of stuff I didn't plan on buying. Like more fabric than I typically know what to do with. When I was there they had patterns on sale 5 for $1, of course I bought 5. I'm not sure when, or if, I'm actually going to use all of them, but it was such a good deal! ![]() I did use one of them and some of the fabric I bought to make this pillowcase dress. Isn't it adorable?!? It is even cuter on my 4 year old. I swear. Even though I don't have any picture of her in it. You'll just have to trust me. But that's not all I did. Once I pull out my sewing machine I tend to get a lot of use out it. I had seen these cute art smocks online and decided to try one. Since I had also scored this Little Mermaid fabric on clearance. Again, cute. Huh? ![]() And even better than being cute, it was easy! So easy in fact, I had to make another. For a boy this time, hence the cute bug print. I also covered the front with plastic to protect it. I love this one. I also made matching dresses for my girls, since my oldest was a little jealous that she didn't get a dress too. I don't usually get them matching outfits, but honestly it was just easier to do them the same! And, the do really look cute in matching outfits- shh, don't tell anyone I said that. Sewing machine is still out and I still have an abundance of fabric, maybe I should go make something else. Add Comment Another Dorky Post! 03/06/2010
I know this stuff is probably only exciting to me, but, I do get really excited about it. ![]() I finally ordered myself some bubble tea straws!! Look how big they are! I'm totally looking forward to making a stacked cake now, to try these out. I ordered them from Boba Tea Direct after looking around for awhile. They had reasonable prices and shipping costs, and they shipped super fast. New Goodies 03/01/2010
Yay! I got new toys! I'm a dork and get super excited about these things. Here's my new goodies. ![]() To start with, I asked my husband if he could pick me up an Exacto knife. Being the romantic that he is, my husband bought me this nifty little kit. I don't know how I've gone so long without having one, it really helps to make cutting fondant pieces easier. ![]() Then, after watching a couple YouTube tutorials by Cupcake Envy I decided there were a few things I needed, like this quilting tool. Look at the little bitty stitching wheel! ![]() Of course, if I'm ordering I may as well get a few other things I've been wanting, like a new set of alphabet cutters. Can't wait to try these out. I'm not a fan of writing on cakes. My handwriting is terrible anyway, and it gets worse when I'm trying to pipe. It will be nice to have a choice of what kind of letters to use. Then there was this ginormous tip I found. I'm so stoked about this one, it's going to be perfect for filling my cakes. I ordered most of these items from Global Sugar Art or Confectioner's Wares. Both sites were very easy to use and shipped quick. Polar Plunge!! 10/17/2009
